Linen & Chalk Paint Vintage Chair Makeover

Leave a Comment
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine let me know that a family friend was about move and was looking for someone to pick up free items from her storage unit. Ummm, yes please! I was there as fast as my truck would take me.

I brought home quite a haul that day, including this little chair. I was going to pass it up at first, but then I discovered it had a secret. More on that later though...any guesses what she's hiding?

For this makeover, I chose Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite, a lovely charcoal grey color with a bluish undertone. I'd only previously worked with Graphite on this project, so I was excited to use it for an entire piece this time.

As you'll see in the first photo, the cushioning on the seat was really thin - it was basically a piece of wood covered by batting worn down to about a 1/4 inch. I replaced the batting with some 3/4 inch foam, and covered the seat with some patterned linen I'd purchased from a local shop owner last fall.

Here's the top of the chair all waxed and buffed. I'll be sharing next week how I get this gorgeous sheen with Annie Sloan wax, so stay tuned (in the meantime, you can find great waxing tips here).

I'm loving the color of the wood peeking out from under the paint.

And here's her little secret!

Recognize that leather? I've been saving it since this project :)

A storage compartment under the seat to stash all kinds of goodies! Books, toys, in-progress crochet projects...the list goes on and on.

Come to think of it, that would be a great place to hide chocolate from hungry little fingers too, don't you think? :)

It's Giveaway Day!

Happy Friday, friends! I, for one, I'm happy to see this very hectic and dreary week come to a close. It snowed here in Central OH earlier this week and I nearly started weeping. Thank God for sunshine, am I right?

To share my end-of-the-week joy with you, today I'm offering a chance to enter not one but two giveaways! Anyone out there like cash and free paint? I know I do!

{Prairie Colors Spring Giveaway}

First, allow me to introduce you to Prairie Colors Chalk Finish Paints. Prairie Colors is a newer paint line inspired by the hues of the American Heartland. These eco-friendly paints come in gorgeous colors, give beautiful coverage, and unlike other chalky finish paints, are durable with or without a coat of wax. Even if I wasn't part of their Blogger Posse, I'd still love this paint :)

Here's your chance to enter the Prairie Colors Spring Giveaway and try this wonderful paint on your next DIY project! The winner will receive:

- Two (2) sample sizes of Prairie Colors Paint in Wild Rose and Spring on the Prairie
- One (1) 16. oz. jar of Prairie Colors Paint in Cobalt Blue

Spring Colors from PrairieColors.Com

The giveaway closes at midnight EST on Saturday, April 4th, and the winner will be notified the same day. Enter here!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

You can also check out my fellow Prairie Colors lovers, Carrie at Thirty Eighth Street and Kelly at Typically Simple to enter for a chance to win on their blogs, too. We'll each be choosing our own winners, so you can really boost your chances by paying them a visit!

Next week, I'll be sharing one of my own Prairie Colors projects - I can't wait to show you what this paint can do!

{Spring Instagram Loop Giveaway}

Here's a heads up on another giveaway coming next week - some fellow bloggers and I are teaming up to offer you a chance to win some cold hard cash!
If you've never participated in a "loop" giveaway before, don't worry, it's really easy and kinda fun. I'll be sharing all the details on Instagram on April 7th - just keep an eye out for the "Spring Loop Giveaway" graphic.

You'll need to follow on Instagram to participate, so if you don't already, you can get a head start and follow us HERE before the giveaway officially begins!

Good luck!

    Welcome to our weekly Shabbilicious Link Party!

    I'm pleased to (re-)introduce our featured host this week, Jeanette!

    Thank you to all of you who stop by and share your projects with us every week, I am truly inspired each time I visit your blogs. It's so exciting to see this little group of ours grow, and I often struggle to choose only a few features with so many amazing projects linked up each week.

    Shabbilicious Link Party | at SnazzyLittleThings.com

    If you're new here, I'm Jeanette from Snazzy Little Things and this week's host. At this blog hop, you’ll find all forms of “perfectly imperfect” decorating, whether it’s modern rustic, industrial, shabby chic, old chippy finishes and beat up wood. I hope you enjoy scrolling as much as I do each week.

    One of the most common questions I get is how my blog got it's name, Snazzy Little Things. Here is a link that tells you the entire story...and who originally coined the phrase ;-)

    Jeanette

    I'm so excited to see a growing number of spring projects. It's been a long, difficult winter for many of us this year. My front yard still had remnants of a snowman (named "Mushy") only two days ago. To see some of my own seasonal crafts and free printables, that I've created to ward off the winter blues, stop by the blog and visit!

    Here is one of my simple spring projects that you can try at home.

    Five Fantastic Green Furniture Makeovers {St. Patrick's Day Roundup}

    Leave a Comment
    Happy St. Patrick's Day!

    In honor of today's celebration of all things green, I've put together a collection of five green furniture makeovers from some of the best DIY bloggers around. I'm talking emerald, kelly, the most vibrant of greens - sorry folks, no teal or mint here today. I love when folks aren't afraid of a little color, and the projects below certainly do look great in green!

    green furniture makeovers St. Patrick's Day roundup

    I love this upcycled roadside bed frame over at The Heathered Nest. Heather chose simple white bedding and complementary cushions, so the entire look is anything but overwhelming.

    http://www.heatherednest.com/2014/08/thoughts-on-hitchhiking.html

    Heidi at Happiness is Homemade not only made the brave choice to paint her sofa, she picked a beautiful and bold shade of green for the project. The result is just stunning!

    The combination of the gorgeous green paint and striped fabric give this vintage chair a cool and modern vibe! Jenna at Rain on a Tin Roof has done a few pieces in similar shades of green - you've got to head over to her blog to see them!

    Shanna at Restoration Redoux (guest posting at Girl in the Garage) turned an old Craigslist dresser into a real beauty! Head to the blog to read about it, and you'll also learn the beautiful story behind one of her sweet pups!

    Finally, Beth at Unskinny Boppy gave a vintage student desk a fresh and unexpected makeover. I just love the green base with the blue and white chevron pattern.

    {Find more makeovers, with FREE furniture, here!}

    I'm feeling SO inspired to redo one of our pieces in a bright emerald shade, so stay tuned for that makeover! What about you? Would you use this color in your home? Let me know below!

    Welcome to Shabbilicious Friday!

    I'm thrilled to be this week's featured host, and even happier that you've all joined us! We are so honored that you continue to amaze us with your work each week.

    In case we haven't met, my name is Stacy, and my husband and I run Anastasia Vintage. I often say that we are self-proclaimed non-creative types who are proving ourselves wrong every day, and it is so true. By day, I'm a graduate student, and Eric is a technician and musical director, so Anastasia Vintage is a much needed creative outlet! Our blog is home to DIY furniture revival projects, vintage-inspired crafts, and free printables for your decor.

    Here's a peek at some of our recent posts:

    Allow me to introduce my fellow hosts!

    On to this week's features:

    There was so much springtime inspiration at last week's party, I couldn't help but feature some of my favorites!

    From the kitchen scale to the vintage tablecloth, there isn't anything I don't love about this spring vignette by Mary Alice at Chateau Chic.

    http://chateau-chic.blogspot.com/2015/03/looking-like-spring-on-inside.html

    The pale, dreamy color that Paula at Sweet Pea chose for her Goodwill table makeover reminds me so much of clear, blue spring skies.

    http://www.virginiasweetpea.com/2015/03/goodwill-table-makeover.html

     This incredible faux garden clock by Suzy at Worthing Court is simply ingenious! I love the funky mix of gardening tools she chose to mark the hours.

    http://www.worthingcourtblog.com/2015/02/how-to-make-a-garden-clock.html

    Lynn at Shabby Story shared her lovely refinished tote with handpainted bunnies. They're just adorable, and perfect for this time of year!

    http://www.shabbystory.com/2015/03/some-spring-some-winter.html

    Priscilla took a galvanized tiered tray from Sam's Club and styled it beautifully for spring. There are so many neat pieces in this perfectly balanced centerpiece.

    http://priscillas2000.blogspot.com/2015/03/spring-galvanized-centerpiece.html

    These speckled egg painted mason jars by Susan at Homeroad are rustic springtime perfection! What a clever decor idea!

    And finally, I'm speechless over the industrial vintage french kitchen over at So Much Better With Age. Those cabinets? That backsplash? Those windows flooding the room with sunlight? Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off of the floor.
